Two years ago, CreatorStock wouldn’t have existed. Today, it thrives thanks to three key elements, and maybe a bit of lucky timing.
After years working in tech for large marketing agencies under the WPP banner, we as founders witnessed the shift from traditional TV and Internet advertising to social media 📲
$211 billion was spent in advertising on social media world wide in 2023, with expected growth up to $345 billion by 2029. Brands now crave authenticity and meaningful connections with their consumers and followers. How did they achieve this? Enter the second key element: UGC.
The Rise of User-Generated Content
User-generated content (UGC) has transformed regular social media users into influencers and digital creators. These creators produce content that leverages brand products, influencing other consumers to purchase them. Authenticity from everyday users promoting branded products fosters a stronger connection and community for brands. While traditional media relied on publishing houses, record labels, and film studios, creators in the digital age can bypass these intermediaries and earn money directly from their audience! But at what cost? They have to post daily, sometimes multiple times a day… which means they need a bank of content.
The Surge of Gen AI and the Gig Economy
With 57% of Gen Z wanting to become content creators, the market is booming. We spend over 147 minutes daily on social media on average, and consumer more content than ever before. With the rise of generative AI, like Sora, which can create high-quality, lifelike content, will AI take over content creation? Not entirely. Why? Because authenticity comes from social media users sharing their daily lives and building communities around originality. And that’s where we come in.

CreatorStock’s Inception
We built CreatorStock to give the world access to one key thing: the content in your phone. Digital creators shoot content daily—whether it’s a picture of food at dinner, a sunset on holiday, or new Nikes. Yet, most don’t monetise it. And yes we’ve all heard of AI - Hootsuite’s Social Trends Report 2024 reveals a significant insight. Despite its benefits, 62% of consumers are less likely to engage with content if they know it was created by AI.
While helping a friend build an app in the ticketing industry, we searched for raw, authentic content to promote it on Instagram. We scoured Adobe, Shutterstock, and Pexels, but nothing looked real. AI wasn’t the answer either, as it’s not yet readily available, and new laws are emerging to regulate AI content (such as tagging content). So, we looked elsewhere—in our mobile phones, where we found tons of vertical, social-media-ready clips. We started using our own content we took at festivals to produce social media ads, and what a discovery that was… I can now monetise my good times, bad times and everything in between.
Trust Is Essential
We realised that everyday creators need a platform to share and monetise their mobile phone content. Other creators, brands, and agencies need this content to stay relevant and post daily, as that’s what social media algorithms thrive on. Trust is crucial—social media users need to trust the content creator. So, why not give them the original content we all shoot daily?
